Porn filters and their effects on LGBTQ+ youth

Digital filters are often presented as a solution for children and youth
when porn filters are seen as a threat, problem, or patritical influence.
In this workshop we will show how this has the opposite effect. The debate
surrounding digital solutions to limit access to information via the
internet has substantially grown in the last few years. Petitions and
debate articles have been lifted towards porn being less accessible for
children and youth. Yet, these filters do not work. It would have been good
if the installation of filters had fixed the problem of unconsential sexual
kontact and content, or the pressure of how bodies, sex, and gender should
look. We will show why active work against filters and “censorship culture”
is so important. The problem is linked to how it more greatly effects
LGBTQ+ youths access to information about sex education compared to
cis-het youth’s. Furthermore, this is a question that surrounds the
understanding of democratic rights, children’s rights, and human rights.
